GASup 013 — May 1939

This is it.  This is the big one.  The premiere of Superman issue #1.  And to commemorate the event, I have brought together some of the best in Superman podcasting today — Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, Charlie Niemeyer from Superman in the Bronze Age, and Kaman Stowell of the Superman Video Podcast.  Together, we first take a look at Action Comics 13, where a protection racket turns out rather randomly to be the sinister machination of Superman’s first recurring villain — the Ultra-Humanite.  Then we look at the new material in Superman 1, including the hero’s origin, and reminisce on how this book has affected all our lives.  And we can’t leave out the Action Comics backup features or the newspaper strips.  So come join the party!

ASMC 029 – Amazing Spider-Man 41 and King-Size Special 3

The Rhino’s on the Rampage, and the Avengers want Spider-Man to bring in the Hulk!  In other words, just another day at the office for the ASM Classics gang!  This time out, Jon, Josh, and Don are joined by Dr. Bond Benton, professor at SUNY Fredonia.  He actually talks comics in class for a living, so we wanted to have him come share in the fun of classic Spidey goodness!

In Amazing Spider-Man 41, Spidey is faced with the inaugural Rhino adventure, as Jonah Jameson’s son John returns from the cobwebs of Spidey’s first issue, but what’s this he says about SPACE SPORES??!!  Then the Avengers decide they want Spidey on the team, and all he has to do is capture the foe no team of superheroes can withstand — the incredible HULK!!

GASup 012 — April 1939

Welcome to a new era in Golden Age Superman, as I say goodbye to the days where Superman was only ever published in one book.  This week, I’ll be taking a look at Action Comics 12, where Superman declares war on reckless drivers, but is a bit reckless himself in the process.  Then it’s a trip to the World’s Fair with the Man of Tomorrow in New York World’s Fair Comics.  With more books come more minutes spent talking about them, so this episode is a bit longer than they have usually been, but that’s going to be more common as we move forward.  So come along into this new chapter in the life of the Man of Steel!

ASMC 028 — One-Year Anniversary Special

Can you believe it?  We’ve made it through an entire year.  And to celebrate, the Classics gang takes a break from comic coverage to take a look through the DeLorean’s rearview mirror at how the show began.  But after a few minutes of that, it’s time to break out your DVD players as we watch Spider-Man (2002) with an in-film movie commentary.  Hope you enjoy, and we’ll be back with regular comic coverage next episode!

So stay tuned to the end, and in the meantime, you are welcome to send us an email and let us know what you think, or share your thoughts in the comment section below.  And we always enjoy receiving reviews on iTunes, which will also receive response on the show.  Thank you so much for listening!
