Golden Age Superman

GASup 016 — August 1939

This week on Golden Age Superman, it’s bunches of Superman stories in the first episode to have both the monthly and quarterly books in full effect.  In Superman 2, reprinting several stories from the newspapers, the Man of Tomorrow helps a depressed ex boxing champ, “Superman Champions Universal Peace” and kills a WHOLE buncha people along the way, and stops a skyscraper construction project from being sabotaged in “Superman and the Skyscrapers”.  Then in Action Comics 17, the Man of Steel learns that the passenger liners of a shipping line are getting blown up one by one, and you’ll never guess who’s behind it, on his way to world domination.  All this and an announcement of a new show I’m going to be involved in!  Enjoy and tell all your friends!

This is it, folks!  This is the one you’ve been waiting for!  Amazing Spider-Man 42 and 43 bring us the first appearance of Mary Jane Watson, the woman Peter will ask to be his wife in the culmination of all of Aunt May’s machinations.  Along for the ride this time is Brad Douglas, webmaster of the Spider-Man Crawl Space, and it wouldn’t have been the same without him.  Hope you enjoy the show!

We also read your emails this time around.  If you’d like to write in and receive response on the air, you are welcome to send us an email.  You can also share your thoughts in the comment section below.  And we always enjoy receiving reviews on iTunes, which will also receive response on the show.  Thank you so much for listening!

GASup 015 — July 1939

School’s been keeping me busy, but in the face of all homework and paper deadlines, I once again have for you an episode of Golden Age Superman!  This week, in Action Comics 16, it’s back to social justice basics for the Man of Steel, as Superman decides to do something about gambling and the numbers racket that is destroying lives and finances in Metropolis.  What?  In where?  That’s right, we finally get a name for the city of Superman’s exploits!  All this, and our first decoding, too!

GASup 014 — June 1939

Just a few days later than usual on this one, but here is the episode of Golden Age Superman, covering the two issues of Action Comics that were released in June.  (Why were there two?  Listen and all shall be made known!)  First, in Action Comics 14, Superman is lured into a trap by the Ultra-Humanite, who managed to survive last issue’s plane crash.  And Ultra sets the standard for all supervillain traps to come by making it way more convoluted and prone to fail than it needed to be.  Then in Action Comics 15, Superman goes hunting for treasure, hoping the gold from a sunken Spanish galleon will save a nearly bankrupt boys’ home.
