New 52 17 Supergirl Superman 7

The New 52 Adventures of Superman continue this week with Supergirl 7 and Superman 7!  Plus, the new modern-day Steve Trevor series starts up in a book called Justice League 7, with an appearance from Superman.  And the not-so-amazing opening arc of Batman: The Dark Knight wraps with issue 7, also including a minor Superman appearance.  But here are the main stories of the episode:

Supergirl 7 — “Graduation Day” — The opening arc of the Maid of Might comes to an action-packed finish as Supergirl faces off with the four World-Killers with the fate of Manhattan resting squarely on her teenage shoulders!

Superman 7 — “To Hel and Back” — The Daemonite saga running throughout various corners of the DCU comes to Superman as he is captured by Helspont in this first issue from the new creative team of Jurgens and Giffen.

Thanks so much for listening. We do hope you enjoy the show, “we” being Jon M. Wilson from Golden Age Superman and J. David Weter of PADSmash!: An Incredible Hulk Podcast and Green Lantern’s Light.  If you have thoughts on the books we cover or on our comments regarding them, please share them by writing an email or comment below.

New 52 16 Superboy 7

This week on The New 52 Adventures of Superman, Jon and Dave are joined by Rennie Cowan of the Superboy Theater website.  Superboy 7 and Teen Titans 7 bring the N.O.W.H.E.R.E. storyline to a head before diving into The Culling, so we give both books an in-depth analysis and do a little bit of a look back at the road that has brought us here.

Superboy 7 — “Untamed Rose!” — Superboy brings the fight to N.O.W.H.E.R.E., and Rose is there at the door to fend him off.  Who will win? Who will lose? And who, exactly, is Harvest?

Teen Titans 7 — “Assault on Project 13” — Not sure exactly what a Project 13 is, but Superboy is the goal of the Titans’ rescue mission.  Only things don’t exactly go well.

The episode is admittedly a tad off-format, but the point we’ve reached in this story merited a concerted look at both titles, and as a Superboy fan, we want to thank Rennie for bringing a lot of great insight.  So come check out the episode!

GASup 031 October 1940

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?  Did you miss me?  Well, summer is here, school’s out, and that means time for more podcasts!  In this episode, I am joined by Charlie Niemeyer once again to look at Action Comics 31.  Someone has put the town of Brentville to sleep, and it’s up to Superman to find out who and how and to put a stop to it!  Jack Burnley brings his beautiful art to the story, and it’s a pretty darn good one.  Then in the daily newspaper strips, Lois has become a pawn of “the Master,” but who is the Master and what is he trying to accomplish by getting Lois Lane fired from the Daily Planet?  Meanwhile, on Sundays, everything comes to a head in the exploration of Lois Lane’s inherited property.  And finally, the Yellow Mask returns to menace the free world on the Superman radio show.  Lots of good stuff is going on, and you’re invited to join in the fun!

Golden Age Superman is a proud member of the Superman Podcast Network.  You are also welcome to check out the other end of the Superman spectrum at The New 52 Adventures of Superman, where Dave Weter and I discuss the latest adventures of the Man of Steel!  If you wish to send feedback, you may do so in the comments below or via email.  You can also subscribe to the show through iTunes, and leave a review if you like to spread the word to others.  Thank you so much for listening!

New 52 14 Superboy Supergirl Superman 6

Welcome back to another fantastic episode of New 52 Superadventures!  In this episode, Dave and Jon wrap their coverage of the 6s with the following books:

Superboy 6 — “Not So Super” — It’s a classic case of Boy meets Girl, Girl doesn’t speak English, Girl finds out Boy is a clone, Girl punches boy into space.  Your traditional not-so-love story, in other words.  Looks like they’re laying seeds for the big Superman books crossover we were promised for this summer.  Wait, isn’t summer here?  WHERE’S OUR CROSSOVER??

Supergirl 6 — “The End of the Beginning” — Supergirl’s opening origin arc is nearing a close as she meets ghosts of her parents and follows Reign back to Earth to stop her from … well, reigning it.  All the pieces are in place for next month’s knock down, drag out brawl.  So long as Reign shuts up long enough for the fight to happen.

Superman 6 — “The Measure of a Superman” — It’s the final chapter of George PĂ©rez’s run on the title as we find out just what’s been going on all this time, leaving us secure in the knowldege of … wait, what HAS been happening all this time?

Heckling aside, there was some good stuff this month.  Mostly.  And we also take some time to look at the end of “Origin” in Justice League 6 and the Superman guest spot in Batman: The Dark Knight 6.  All right here, all just for you!

Thanks so much for listening. We do hope you enjoy the show, “we” being Jon M. Wilson from Golden Age Superman, J. David Weter of PADSmash!: An Incredible Hulk Podcast and Green Lantern’s Light, as well as Michael Kaiser from the newly revived Legends of the Batman.  If you have thoughts on the books we cover or on our comments regarding them, please share them by writing an email or comment below.
