I understand Jonathan Harker’s desire to write in shorthand, to safeguard his writing from the Count, but now, he’s beginning to understand that when (more likely than “if”) the Count discovers his journal, this “code” will enrage him. With, presumably, the Count’s possible military or diplomatic background, and long life, he may be able to decipher it. In any case, it seems unlikely, at this point, that Mr. Harker will be returning to England alive, so who will see his journal?
Besides us? It’s a good question. With the latest encounter, let’s hope Mina doesn’t see it, or at least doesn’t take it in a bad way.
