Excellent episode! I love that you’ve adapted some of the story elements to a more contemporary setting, mentioning people taking pictures with their phones, and Uncle Ben’s digital camera, rather than keeping things as they were back in 1963. I also like the idea that Peter hasn’t entirely figured out what sets off his “spider sense”, at least not completely, since he’s only had these powers for a short time. That ties in with how it took him a while to figure out that he could get out of the water tank by using his strength when he couldn’t climb the wet walls, and had no web fluid to shoot. He’s a smart guy, but he doesn’t know everything, so he has to think his way out of some predicaments. Thanks for the fun.
The pitfall with updating the elements is that they’re eventually going to be dated as well, but there’s probably no getting around that lol. I love these stories and I love that Ditko built a learning curve into the character’s early days.
On a complete side note: I have a strong suspicion that the lead stories for ASM 1 and 2 were at least partly done quite a while earlier, when they thought Spider-Man was going to be an ongoing lead story in Amazing Fantasy. Then when Amazing Spider-Man was launched as a book length, they used what would have been AF 16 and 17 as the lead, then went back and did backup stories. So Ditko was able to have him run out of web fluid in the backup for ASM 1 since he knew he would be out in ASM 2. Also, that would explain why Peter’s last name is wrong in the FF/Chameleon story in ASM 1. It was the first Spider-Man story that Stan had had to script in a few months. And ASM 3 was the first full-length story done for the new magazine.
